eCM IV
Bone Tissue Engineering
June 30th - 2nd July 2003, Congress Centre, Davos, Switzerland
Welcome
The eCM IV conference was dedicated to honour, in his retirement year, Professor Berton Rahn's 35 years work on bone research. Professor Rahn`s presentation on his work with fluorochromes in bone remodelling studies received a standing ovation (see images below). Reviews of this work are expected shortly in the eCM journal! |

Left to Right: Prof. Charlie W. Archer (Reparative Biology & Tissue Engineering, Cardiff Institute of Tissue Engineering & Repair, Cardiff University, Wales, GB), Dr Mauro Alini (Program Leader, Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering) and Dr R. Geoff Richards (Program Leader, Bioperformace of Materials & Devices) AO Research Institute, Davos, Switzerland. Conference organisers |
Again, the single session eCM meeting, which had 150 attendees,
had an in depth multi-disciplinary set of discussions with clinicians,
biologists, chemists, engineers and materials scientists. The subject
matter included basic bone biology, histology, chambers (in vivo
and ex vivo), growth factors, fracture repair and materials for
bone substitutes with cell & tissue response & clinical experiences.
There were 35 oral and 35 poster presentations with plenty of time
for discussion of the science and possible applications to medicine,
both during the formal sessions and afterwards. Enjoy reading the
abstracts, several of the faculty's presentations, as well as some
of the submitted presentations, will appear in the eCM journal in
the near future.
